I was born Mateo Fabio on January 2, 1966, in Houston, Texas. My cultural roots, however, extend across the Atlantic to Rome, Italy, the city of origin for both of my parents.
My academic journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where I cultivated a foundational interest in the built environment. I graduated in 1991, equipped with a broader understanding of design principles. Seeking deeper specialization, I pursued and earned a Master of Arts (MA) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1996. This work served as a prelude to my doctoral studies, and in 2000, I achieved my PhD in Architecture and Urban Design from UCLA. My doctoral research allowed me to synthesize theoretical frameworks with practical applications, focusing on the interplay between architectural form and urban context.
The following years were dedicated to applying this expertise within the architectural field, navigating complex projects and further developing my technical and managerial acumen. In my personal life, I was married in 2006. Although this marriage ended in divorce in 2010, it brought me my greatest personal accomplishment: my son.
Driven by a vision to integrate advanced engineering solutions with transformative architectural design, I founded and now serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Mateo Engineering. In this role, I lead our efforts in delivering innovative and sustainable project outcomes. Currently, I reside in England, where I continue to guide my company’s growth and strategy.
As a professional, I remain committed to the evolution of the architectural and engineering landscapes, drawing upon a lifetime of academic rigor, cross-cultural insight, and dedicated practice. I am a father, an executive, and a perpetual student of design, navigating the future from my base in England.
